Looking At You

‘Looking At You’ by Gui Moraes, 20 Photographs

Scopophilia—the inherent pleasure derived from observing someone or something simply out of curiosity—is at the very heart of this photographic exploration. In ‘Looking At You’, the artist dedicates twenty consecutive days to quietly observing a neighbour, documenting everyday rituals through intimate yet unobtrusive photography.

Inspired by the Argentinian drama film “Sidewalls,” the phrase “We are the tenant culture” succinctly captures the essence of this series. It reminds us that our lives constantly intersect and overlap, often unknowingly, with the lives of neighbours, strangers, and countless others around us. Through these candid glimpses into routine, the photographer invites us to reflect upon our own roles as silent observers and participants in the urban tapestry of everyday life.
